Bio

Dave Martin has been the Director of Choirs at West Middle School in Taylor, MI for twelve years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree from Western MichiganUniversity, and a Master of Arts in Music degree in Music Education from EasternMichigan Universtiy. His final project is titled “Recruiting and Retaining Males in the Middle School Vocal Music Program.”  In 2004, Dave was honored by the Taylor School District as their nominee for Wayne County RESA‘s Teacher of the Year.

Dave has directed community and children’s theater productions with many downriver theater companies includingDYPACShowbiz Kidz and Showbiz Starz, Taylor Youth Theater, and Southgate Community Players. Dave also is the lead singer, rhythm guitarist, and occasional keyboardist and drummer of a rock n’ roll band, The Classics (aka The Bel Airs). The 9-piece big band performs rock ‘n roll from the 50′s to the 90′s at church festivals, city arts festivals and performance series, and weddings.

Dave is a huge fan of Macintoshcomputers, and has set up a 12-station computer lab in the chorus room running Alfred’s Essentials of Music Theory software. He also built his teaching station (in his garage) which houses a Macintosh computer, scanner, Yamaha S90 keyboard, Mark of the Unicorn 828 recording interface, JBL speakers, and Sennheiser microphones. Mr. Martin uses Apple’s Garageband software to record the voice and accompaniment parts for all songs his choir performs.

Dave has a beautiful wife, Jennifer, a precocious daughter, Mia, and a wonderful son named Mason.
